A couple who have lost more than 15 stone together have shared their secret to looking weight – and how to do it for less than £20 a week.
John Clark, 42, and Charlotte Deniz, 36, achieved their goals after following a structured meal prep plan on a budget, and some dishes cost 50p a serving.
The fitness couple says they spend six hours every Sunday creating 28 meals for Monday to Friday.
John said: “There’s a myth that eating healthy is expensive but it’s about being resourceful with what you’ve got.
“The first thing to do is look through your fridge and make sure there’s nothing going to waste.
“Pick meals that include any food you may have left over for the week.
“Tins of chickpeas can be your best friend. A tin is around 33p and you can make four chickpea burgers with it. A pack of four burger buns is 69p so that’s a burger for under 50p.
“We shop at the market, Home Bargains, Aldi and Tesco. It’s all about finding the lowest price.
“Everything can be done cheap, you just have to look and shop around.”
John, who used to weigh 21-stone, is now 12-stone while Charlotte slimmed down from a size 18 to an eight.
The couple has also taken pictures with their old trousers to show how much weight they have lost.
The couple also shows others how they can prep their meals for the week through their book, The Meal Prep King Plan.
A weekly meal plan includes tuna, cheese and egg muffins for breakfast, roasted red pepper and tomato soup for lunch and cottage pie for dinner.
Another day might include a raspberry pot for breakfast followed by chicken and vegetable traybake for lunch and lasagne for tea.
Their recipes also include sweet treats such as sweet potato brownies and protein balls.
He added: “It saves time and money and it works for us.
“I call it a lifestyle and not a diet because a diet suggests there’s an end and unless you’re going to stop eating food, there is no end.
“To me, a diet means being restrictive and miserable.
“People are amazed Charlotte did it in ten months but that’s only two pounds a week.
“I started this because I was sick of companies praying on desperate people who want to lose weight around Christmas time with fads and quick fixes. I wanted to give people proper hope and sustainability.
“I used to be known as fat John before my journey. I went to the GP and asked for advice and I was disgusted in the lack of help.
“I went to the library to research weight loss for myself and that’s when I started meal prepping as I’ve always loved to cook.
“I tried everything to lose weight, Keto, weight watchers, slimming world, but nothing worked until this.”
